Artist Biography

Cydney Shanelle (b. 2004) is a self-taught contemporary painter working primarily in oil. In 2026 she presented her first solo exhibition at Verger Art Gallery in Seoul, following her international debut at World Art Dubai 2025 and a series of local group exhibitions.

She paints animals and other natural subjects to examine the relationships that form between living beings: what is remembered, what is carried, what changes hands without being spoken. Her own dogs recur across the work, kept close rather than merely observed. The rest comes from everyday life, from love and the small ordinary exchanges between people, and from the way travel resets what she notices.

Her process begins with sketching, letting ideas find their own footing before they are carried onto canvas in layered applications of oil paint. What began as childhood doodles gradually evolved into a dedicated exploration of painting. She stepped away for several years, then returned in high school with far more intention. She believes not all emotions need to be loud to be deeply felt, and trusts each painting to speak at its own volume.

Cydney's Inspiration

"To me, animals mirror us in more ways than we realise. The way they move through life reveals so much about who they are and what shaped them."
